Starting new Christmas traditions with an Advent book collection and more

Updated: Dec 4, 2020

Full disclosure: I’ve never had my act together for Advent. Ever. I’ve tried. I’ve failed. Never happens. This year, though, finally, I got around to an actual Advent plan! Woohoo!

Thanks to the Lauren McBride Blog as well as Risen Motherhood for the inspiration, I started two traditions in our household this year.

First, we are opening one book per day of Advent. I rounded up a collection of books, a mix of Christian and just-for-fun stories to keep it interesting all month long. (As you can see, I haven’t been able to wrap them all just yet.) Kyle and I want to be intentional about making Christmas all about the birth of Jesus - how God sent his Rescuer to us like he promised.

On the recommendation of the ladies at Risen Motherhood, we are also reading a daily Bible story from the Jesus Storybook Bible that corresponds with an ornament we hang on the tree each day. You can get the free guide linked here.

Without further ado, here is the list of books we landed on for this year! Each year, I will put the books away with the Christmas decorations and then rewrap them again the following year. I hope they become well loved stories in our family!

  1. The Silent Noisy Night

  2. The Christmas Wish

  3. From Eden to Bethlehem

  4. A Very Noisy Christmas

  5. Mortimer’s Christmas Manger

  6. Song of the Stars

  8. A Very Merry Christmas Prayer
